Everything Wrong With Snow White

Snow White is one of the popular fairy tales stories we’ve all read in our childhood. It’s so popular there have been countless animation and movie adaptions from this story. Children love Snow White too! Who wouldn’t love a lively young girl who can speak to animals, right?

Well then, what’s iffy about Snow White? Let’s look at a few flaws of the story.

1. Snow White’s name

Snow White. The name the mirror that knows everything takes when asked who is the prettiest of them all. Keeping in mind that this is a story for kids, this would make children think only things that can be related to ‘snow’ and ‘white’ can be beautiful. This is now a progressing world where everything is about breaking stereotypes and accepting beauty in all shapes and sizes. If children are still learning this in this day and age, maybe we’re progressing backward.

2. Beauty

The whole story of snow white and the seven dwarfs rotates around beauty. It starts with the evil queen making sure she is the most beautiful person alive ends with the prince falling in love with Snow White at first sight due to her beauty. That’s because the theme of the story is ‘beauty’. It makes it seem like beauty is something rather important when it isn’t. Beauty may add to someone’s attractive points, but some people forget that there’s more to a person than just their beauty.

This is the reason Disneyland and its Snow White ride were under fire a while ago. For showing the prince kiss snow white without her consent. Unfortunately, many of the fairy tales stories we’ve read as children have similar content. Sleeping Beauty is another example of this very instance. Children would start thinking that kissing unconscious women without their consent is perfectly alright. But it is, in fact, a serious violation despite it being portrayed as a way to show ‘true love’.

That’s not all though. Despite Snow White and the seven dwarfs not being acquainted with each other, she takes refuge in their house. Imagine if you come back home and see a stranger inside. You would call the police. But the dwarfs accept it so easily. Recalling that it is a story for children, they might unconsciously learn this behavior, which is also a serious violation.

The Takeaway

Fairy tales are made for kids. Who would have known that even content made especially for children could be dangerous? Not to mention some fairy tales like the red riding hood are older than most existing things. Why are they so dark then?

It doesn’t take much to influence a child the wrong way. They pick up the littlest things at the fastest pace. And it could be rather hard to unlearn all that. So, it’s important to make sure they are not exposed to the wrong kind of content. Even if the content is for children especially.

Some people say fairy tales are dark because humanity is just like that, dark. Humanity is indeed dark. Unlike Snow White, ironically. That doesn’t mean innocent children deserve to be exposed to that harmful darkness.

A Guide To Reading To Your Baby: What To Do And When

You can spend some lovely bonding time with your baby while reading to them, and they will reap many benefits as they grow. These tips will help you encourage your child to enjoy reading for a lifetime.

Why is it important to read to my baby?

You can develop a close and loving bond with your baby if you read to them, no matter how young they are. It will make your baby feel safe and secure when you give him undivided attention, as well as provide him with the undivided attention he will appreciate.

It’s not just beneficial for bonding to read fairy tales stories to your baby. Early language exposure will lead to better language ability later on for your baby. A strong language foundation may also improve his academic performance.

Your baby’s language and understanding will develop significantly if you talk to him about what you both do throughout the day. Introducing him to words he won’t naturally encounter in everyday life is made easier through him reading fairy tales stories and looking at books together.

Do you think I should start reading to my child when they are a baby?

The early bird catches the worm. As soon as your baby is born, he will begin listening to you speak and sing, as well as read aloud. Reading to your baby at an early age will have a positive impact on his development. The difference in rhythms and sounds stimulate and develop your newborn’s hearing as well as lay good foundations for learning to listen later in life. Your newborn, of course, won’t understand what you are saying initially, but the sounds and rhythms will reinforce and improve his hearing development over time. Your baby will learn that books are fun no matter how old he is by regular reading! More importantly, reading to your baby lets you both enjoy some quiet time together. Your infant’s bedtime routine will be much calming if you curl up with them and read a story, be it Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs or Beauty & the Beast!

What is the best way to read to my baby?

You or your partner’s intimacy and your voices – and his favorite stories – are what your baby loves the most. Despite all the attention, he’ll get from storytime, he will especially enjoy the one-on-one time!

As you begin reading to your baby, you are mainly trying to facilitate his understanding of language rhythm. You can read from your favorite novel or magazine, but he won’t be able to understand what you’re saying, so don’t stress about talking loudly. You’re more likely to enjoy your baby’s book if you’re having fun reading it!

During your baby’s first months, his eyesight will improve, and he’ll soon be attracted to bright colors and sharp contrasts. If he has not yet initiated a love of books, this is the perfect time to introduce him to board books and picture books.

By reading your baby’s favorite stories often, you can help develop his language skills by using the same phrases again and again. Make your voice sound different for each character and change your pitch.

Interactive reading helps children build their vocabulary and comprehension, based on research. You should ask your baby questions about what you’re reading, even if he can’t speak back!

Choosing books with built-in activities is a good idea. For example, look for books with images hidden behind flaps or behind sliding partitions. Another great choice is nursery rhymes, whose sing-song rhythms and playful wording are sure to delight your baby!

The Takeaway!

A baby’s enjoyment is the most important aspect of the experience. Read his favorite books, let him touch, point, and pull as you read, and provide him with time to feel what’s on the page. Watch his cues to see when he is ready for some cozy storytime.

Read more, but don’t forget to relax every day and don’t feel pressured to finish a whole book. When your baby is young, you can read aloud to him for a few minutes now and then!

The Hansel And Gretel Story And It’s Moral

Best way to make a child willing to go to bed? Bedtime stories! They are always so fun and adventurous, and children get to learn a new moral lesson each time! Bedtime stories are a great way to encourage children to develop a liking for reading and improve their logic and communication skills!

Summary of the Hansel and Gretel Story

One of the most famous bedtime stories of all time is the Hansel and Gretel story. The simplest version is about a pair of siblings called Hansel and Gretel who are abandoned in the woods. Their father was a poor woodcutter, and it was tough getting through the winter so, their parents made the decision to drop the children in the forest. Hansel had dropped pebbles on their way to the woods and so Hansel and Gretel found their way back home following the pebbles. The next day they are taken to the woods again but since Hansel could not get his hands on pebbles, he drops breadcrumbs instead. But the crumbs all get eaten by the birds! And so, the pair of siblings get lost in the forest.

Finally, wandering around, they found a beautiful house made of gingerbread and candies! Hungry Hansel and Gretel nibbled on the rooftop when an old lady who was the owner of the house opened the door. She kindly invited them inside, but little did the children know she was a witch who planned to eat them and was just luring them into her trap.

After they entered her beautiful house, Hansel was thrown into a cage, and Gretel was made into a slave. On the day the witch planned to bake Hansel, Gretel tricked the witch into checking the burning oven and pushed her in, and quickly closed the oven door. She helped her brother Hansel out of the cage and then they quickly escaped the gingerbread house, carrying the witch’s jewels and food. They are finally able to return home and present their parents with the jewels, and so, their parents welcome them back home happily.

The Moral Learned

There are a lot of lessons in the Hansel and Gretel Story, one of them being stranger danger. The witch seemed nice on the surface and invited them inside her pretty gingerbread house but her motive in doing so proved to be dangerous for the children. The story teaches children not to trust strangers even if they seem nice. It also teaches the children to be clever and never lose hope as in the end Hansel and Gretel were able to come back home with the help of their wit.

The Bottom Line

The morals we learn as a child stays as a base for our entire lifetime hence, making sure a child understands the morals at the end of the story is essential for their growth. Parents might find it troublesome to buy and arrange too many storybooks, so searching up bedtime stories online is the solution for them! Happy Reading!
